Saturday March 21, 2020 Drop-Off Updates plus Show (but no Tell!)

Dear Friends,

Thank you to every single person who took the time on Saturday to drop off quilts, blankets, quilt tops, and pellet pockets for weighted blankets. Your help and cooperation made this very unusual day go as smoothly as we could have hoped. We even managed to not get rained on! A special thanks goes out to our volunteers who collected and sorted our blankets for delivery.

We do not yet have a decision on the April meeting. Keep an eye on the website, join our email list, like us on Facebook, or follow us on Instagram for the latest information.

We encourage you to keep sewing, keep crocheting & keep knitting! We have no way of knowing how this health crisis may affect our group or the children of Central Texas in the future. We will continue to collect donations for our usual facilities. We are also collecting Camp quilts & blankets in the hope that those events will still happen this supper. Your talented hearts & hands are very much appreciated!

If you would like to connect to other blanket makers during this difficult time, we have a Facebook Group just for Linus Connection volunteers. You can join here.

If you are in desperate need of supplies or have some other Linus-related question, please contact one of the Board Members (emails and what we do below) and we'll do everything we can to help.

Linus Board Members

We do have some Show & Tell for you and we hope it brightens your day! Our volunteers took photos of some of the donations that came in during sorting yesterday and we have some photos shared by our Facebook Group members

Stay safe & healthy & enjoy!

Please remember: Paper Poems should include your first name at the top with the ribbon tied in a bow. Use a safety pin on quilts, NO safety pin on yarn blankets.

ALL blankets should include a paper tag with a poem and a sew-on Linus label (see diagram).

To qualify to order “Charitable Batting” from Hobbs Bonded Fibers, we are required to provide UPC labels
from Hobbs packaged batting.

If you are a quilter or know any quilters, please save your Hobbs batting bags or UPC labels and either bring them to the monthly meeting or mail them to us at The Linus Connection, P.O. Box 29491, Austin, Texas 78755.

Please also ask any quilting friends you know to do this as well. We really depend on this batting to fulfill our deliveries each month.

Do you have a fabric donation? Please contact Marge to make drop-off arrangements. Thanks!

Our volunteers make hundreds of blankets each month to meet the need of children in crisis in Central Texas. To do this, many supplies are needed. We are constantly in need of washable 100% acrylic yarn. Leftover balls of yarn to full skeins are gratefully accepted.

Have yarn? Bring it to the next Linus meeting or leave it at one of our Drop-Off locations clearly marked for The Linus Connection.

Not from the Austin area? Email Anne for the best address to mail yarn donations!

We've had a huge request for weighted blankets and are still in need of tops. If you're able to help, we currently need the following sizes:  6x9, 8x8, 7x9, 8x10. Our weighted blanket tops are made with 4 1/2" squares to make 4" finished blocks. We can also use brick quilt tops if the bricks are staggered and the sizes are equivalent to a top made with 4 1/2" squares. Brick quilt top tutorial.

Weighted blanket quilt tops should be completed and turned in to the kitchen during our monthly meeting. Those are attention to Debbe. Quilt tops with a BACK added should be attention to Stephanie. Thank you all for your help!

We still need LOTS of Pellet Pockets! Find the instructions to make those are here.

If you are helping with Weighted Blankets making pellet pockets, tops, etc., these go in the blue bin on the desk in the kitchen. Be sure to sign tops in on the Sign In Sheet as Quilt Tops.
Have questions? Contact Stephanie or Anne.
