Never Miss a Meeting:

Texas Department of Agriculture 2016 Quilt Block Competition
(from the TDA website
Every other year, the Texas Department of Agriculture invites quilters around the state to pick up their needles and accept a challenge: design a block adhering to a theme using Texas natural fibers. Without fail, talented participants answer the call, and TDA receives numerous worthy submissions. Contest participants use Texas natural fibers - cotton, wool and leather - to create a quilt block design. A panel of judges selects the winning entries, which are then combined to create the quilts that make up the TDA Quilt Collection and become part of TDA’s natural fiber exhibition.
Read more here.

The Linus Connection is honored to be the recipient of the very special blocks that were not used in the final TDA Quilts from the last few contests. Each and every block is a tribute to the talent of Texas quilters.

Our volunteers these blocks to create three gorgeous quilts that were donated to children in crisis in Central Texas after our July 2016 meeting.

The TDA will be donating blocks not used in the final quilts from future contests to The Linus Connection. Thanks, TDA!

A very big thank you to Shirley & Marge for completing these very special quilts!

It's Challenge Time!

Each October, The Linus Connection celebrations it's birthday month with a blanket challenge! Our volunteers create quilts and afghans using a predetermined set of guidelines. The 2016 Challenge packs are now available at each monthly meeting through September. Need a copy of the rules? Get them here!

The deadline for turning in your blanket is 9:30am on October 15, 2016, but we encourage you to turn them in early. Challenge blankets should not be signed in at the monthly meeting as they will be checked off when Osie received them.

We need your HOBBS UPC codes!

To qualify to order “Charitable Batting” from Hobbs Bonded Fibers, we are required to provide UPC labels from Hobbs packaged batting.

If you are a quilter or know any quilters, please save your Hobbs UPC labels and either bring them to the monthly meeting or mail them to us at The Linus Connection, P.O. Box 29491, Austin, Texas 78755.

We need 5 UPC labels for each roll of charity batting we purchase and every label counts!

The Linus Connection needs yarn donations. April 2014 photo yarndonationsneeded_thelinusconnection_zpsb01796a2.jpg

Our volunteers make hundreds of blankets each month to meet the need of children in crisis in Central Texas. To do this, many supplies are needed. We are constantly in need of washable 100% acrylic yarn. Leftover balls of yarn to full skeins are gratefully accepted.

Have yarn? Bring it to the next Linus meeting or leave it at one of our Drop-Off locations clearly marked for The Linus Connection.

Not from the Austin area? Email Jennifer for the best address to mail yarn donations!

We continue to have requests for weighted blankets. This is a special project that is unlike our usual requests. These blankets take more time and special supplies. If you'd like to help, please see the documents below for more information.

Stephanie has created printable handouts for Linus volunteers wishing to help with this special project:
Please turn your Pellet Pockets and finished tops for Weighted Blankets at the monthly meeting. They can be left on the front table where quilt tops are turned in. Be sure to sign tops in on the Sign In Sheet as Quilt Tops.

Have questions? Contact Stephanie!
